1955
Upon immigrating to Canada from Italy and growing tired of working for existing concrete companies in 1955, brothers’ Guido and Hector DiStefano decided to take matters into their own hands and start their own company. Since neither had an education past middle school, their plan seemed impossible at best. The challenges they were certain to face did not alter their plans or cause their enthusiasm or dedication to falter. When they first began ideas were abundant but money was scarce. The business was based out of their garage in Bridgeland (Little Italy), with a fleet consisting of only one wheelbarrow, one finishing machine, and one pickup truck.
Now over 60 years later, the company has an operation employing more than 300 people with over 100 trucks, many pumps, and crews for prepping, placing, pumping, and finishing. As well as having expanded to three locations across Canada.
In 1964 the first expansion in Prince George British Columbia was up and running with new partner Joe Paolucci. The Edmonton location opened in 1994 adding one more partner, Rod Taverner.
2016 saw the completion of a major expansion in Edmonton and a new state of the art concrete batching plant servicing Calgary and the surrounding area.
Growing Rollingmix
Although there are few traces of the tiny Bridgeland company from which Rollingmix grew, the strong family values, qualities, and work ethic passed on from generation to generation has held strong. The perfectionist attitude so ingrained in the family was the base for the DiStefano’s strong work philosophy and commitment to providing top-quality product and service, setting them apart from their competition and earning the company a strong reputation in the commercial and residential building industry.
Influenced by humble beginnings and a work ethic driven by strong family values of commitment and dedication to quality, Rollingmix will never forget that it was the small guys who got them where they are today.
