How it’s done

Concrete is a minimal waste option due to its customized applications. On the rare occasion that excess occurs, the concrete is crushed into aggregate to be used on roads and retaining walls. At Rolling Mix, we further this commitment to sustainability by using 100% recycled water at our Balzac plant.

The thermal properties of concrete make it a desirable and cost-effective choice. Concrete floors can reduce heating energy by 6-15% without the need for additional insulation. Larger commercial buildings and residential homes can benefit from concrete floors and often report moderate heating and cooling costs. Overall, concrete is a long-lasting, environmentally sustainable choice that provides economic benefit to the community.

The concrete poured today creates the foundation for the future.

how to care for your concrete

With proper care, concrete is a durable building material that can last for many years. Homeowners should follow these basic maintenance steps to help ensure it continues to perform well over time.

General Care
  • Avoid driving or parking on newly poured concrete for at least 28 days; this curing period is essential for the concrete to reach its full strength and stability.
  • Do not park heavy or commercial vehicles such as motorhomes or moving trucks on the driveway at any time.
  • Keep rain and snow run-off and excessive hose water away from concrete as water pooling can destabilize the soil beneath and beside the driveway.
  • Promptly remove leaves and organic debris, as some foliage can cause staining.
  • Avoid using acid-based products to clean or remove stains from concrete. Instead, use a concrete cleaner and a stiff broom for best results.
  • Keep fertilizers and other lawn treatments off the driveway.
  • Promptly remove snow and ice from driveways and sidewalks.
  • Do not use de-icing chemicals or salt, as they can cause long-term damage.
  • Avoid letting water pool inside the garage, especially near the overhead door.
  • Apply concrete sealer to exposed aggregate or broom-finished driveways every 2 years; garage floors should also be sealed with a slip-resistant coating for added protection and safety.
DAMAGE FROM SALTS, DE-ICERS, OR FERTILIZERS, INCLUDING MELT-OFF SLUSH FROM VEHICLES, IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY.
